Sandra Annisette always knew that she wanted to return to school, but as an adult with other responsibilities, she found it difficult to find the support she  needed to be successful. Sandra heard about Alray from one of her friends who was already involved in the program, and with Alray’s support, she was able to persevere and complete her degree from Lesley University. Sandra double majored in elementary education and global studies with the goal of teaching upper elementary school students. Sandra’s licensing process was interrupted due to school closures because of the global coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, Sandra is determined to finish what she has started and has applied for a paraprofessional teaching assistant position in order to complete her teaching credentials.

When faced with challenges and obstacles to completing her degree, Sandra kept herself on target and was determined to see things through. She reminded herself that finishing school was what she really wanted, and she found motivation in her friends and family around her. Sandra also considers Alray a big reason why she was successful. Her mentor, Clare Putnam, was actively invested in Sandra’s work and acted as Sandra’s biggest advocate as she completed her degree.

Not only does Sandra value the financial support and mentorship from Alray, but she also speaks highly of Alray’s additional services, such as the career development professionals and workshops on fiscal literacy. Sandra encourages everyone to become involved with Alray at any capacity. “Having all these resources available really contributed to my success,” she says, “and being an Alray mentor or a donor means that YOU are contributing to that success as well.”
