Through the Alray Scholars Program, Oscar, who is the big brother in his own family, finally received the opportunity to be a “little brother.” In 2018, Oscar was accepted into Alray and was matched with Alray graduate, Jamel, for mentorship. Oscar was able to learn from Jamel’s experience of navigating college coursework, financial aid, and work. The Difference Mentoring Can Make
Jean Dolin is a communications major who is completing his degree through the Duet program at Southern New Hampshire University. He is finishing his program this year and wants graduate school to be his next step. As a Dean at Tufts, Jean Herbert noticed that students with connections to “a more experienced voice” succeeded more frequently than students who did not. Through mentoring Edzana with Alray, she’s learned that mentorship helps the mentor grow, too.Jean Herbert made a career of supporting adult learners before she even joined the Alray team. For over thirty years she directed Tufts University’s R.E.A.L. program (Resumed Education for Adult Learners), which supports adult learners with an interrupted education return to college.
